There is so much talk about SEO but what exactly is it and why do we need it?

SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines.

excellent but what does that mean, well if you are using Google Adwords and you are on the front page for many of your keywords that’s great but we call that ‘rented’ space. Why? because you will only be on the front page while you are paying for it. Ideally, you want to be on the front page without having to pay for it which is called organic results. This is when your website will come up based on what people put into their search engine.

There are a number of ways to do this but today we are going to focus on ‘Local SEO’. There are a plethora of options available for businesses to be on the front page but one of my favourite is through social media. Google has their own social platform it’s called Google+ and more importantly by setting this up correctly you can register your business with ‘Google My Business’ well isn’t that what we all want…people to Google our businesses?

This is such a HUGE opportunity for small business to get ahead and I have helped so many clients get ahead of the big boys just because big companies are so busy doing big business that they forget and don’t have time to stay with the online game. Yes, it’s exactly that…a game, you just have to know how to play and what better way than to get someone to teach you the rules. 

Google can be a bit cruel in that department, they keep changing the rules but ultimately they have one goal and that is to get the most relevant information to us quickly when we are searching. So be NEW, be RELEVANT, create great CONTENT and keep learning because burying your head in the sand is not going to get you to page #1 and either is talking about it.
